Wisconsin has solidified itself as the cheese state champion of the nation.
Hanna Lee of Uplands Cheese Company in Dodgeville won the international title of Young Cheesemonger of the Year, becoming the first American to do so, Wisconsin Public Radio reports.
The World Cheese Awards take place each November, when cheesemongers from around the world gather to compete.
Lee, 28, was one of six finalists in the Bern, Switzerland, finals. There, she had to identify cheeses, cut and weigh them, design a cheeseboard and create flavor pairings.
The Wisconsinite used Marieke Gouda from Thorp for a summer birthday cheeseboard.
