Terry Brei, president and owner of Sure Controls in Greenville, is the featured guest on this week’s episode of NEW Manufacturing Insights, a weekly podcast hosted by Ann Franz of the NEW Manufacturing Alliance and Kate Bruns of Insight on Manufacturing.
On this week’s episode, which is NEW Manufacturing Insights’ 80th, Brei tells the co-hosts that his mission at Sure Controls is to “keep manufacturers running, growing and smiling in the Midwest.”
Automation and artificial intelligence are hot topics in the manufacturing world, and Sure Controls’ work is at the forefront of these technologies. One of the biggest impacts of AI in manufacturing has been predictive diagnostics, Brei says.
Brei adds that it’s vital for manufacturers to understand the impact, necessity and residual effects of technologies like AI, cobots and process automation — not just the seemingly limitless possibilities, but the solutions that match a given business and the time and effort it takes to implement them.
“You have to understand that you’re improving operations — it doesn’t always mean that you’re simplifying,” he tells the co-hosts on the episode. “You can fully automate something, but there’s a lot of work involved when you make changes to a fully automated process or if you’re automating something that’s not fully understood how the process is done.”
Listen to all of Brei’s insights, including what’s next for Industry 4.0 and what he considers his best leadership insight, by listening to the full episode on Spreaker or anywhere you listen to podcasts.
The podcast is produced by B.J. DeGroot of Woodward Community Media, who was recently promoted to market manager for Woodward’s Northeast Wisconsin radio stations, and new episodes are released on Thursdays.
